Project Record Book
Competition
Horse Project Books can now
be entered at the State Horse Show. Each horse club
in the state is eligible to enter a maximum of two
project books from their club. Entries must be
submitted through their club, a leader and agent signature is
required on the special entry form (found on page 58). No
project books will be accepted without the required signatures.
Entries must be submitted to the show office by 6 PM on Thursday
of the state horse show week. Judging will take place on
Friday. The top two project books at the
State Horse Show will receive a savings bond and a ribbon.
Books will be on display for viewing, Friday and Saturday
following the judging. Books will be available for pick-up
before the conclusion of the show on Sunday.
The competition for project record books only is for the current
calendar year.
Only the portfolio can include up to three years (current and
last two years).
All books must include a horse project for each year entered.
Years that do not include a horse project should not be entered
in this competition.
Don’t forget that your agent needs to sign the entry form.
Individual project
supplements are not considered a complete project record book.
Project record books are designed to help youth build on their
educational experiences. What youth did and what they learned
from what they did should be clear to the reader.

The competition will be divided into two divisions; Junior
division ages nine (9) to thirteen (13) and Senior division ages
fourteen (14) to nineteen (19). Exhibitors do not have to be
physically present at the State Horse Show in order to submit a
project book. If this is the case, project books should be sent
to VA State 4-H Horse Show, APSC (0306), Litton Reaves Hall,
Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA 24061 by September 12, 2008.
